After finishing a postdoc at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, Josef Steinberger moved back in 2012 to continue career as a lecturer at the University of West Bohemia. His main research interest is Natural language processing. In particular: automatic text summarisation, sentiment analysis and coreference resolution. At JRC he worked on the Europe Media Monitor family of applications. Building media monitoring solutions brought other topics of interest, like news clustering and categorisation, story tracking, information extraction, event extraction, named entity recognition, quote recognition, or information visualisation. To achieve high multilinguality his aim is to limit dependency on a particular language or building multilingual resources. He has been actively involved in several national research grants and cooperates with numerous institutions (University of Essex (UK), Joint Research Centre (Italy), Fondazione Bruno Kessler (Italy), NCSR Demokritos (Greece), Sami Shamoon College of Engineering (Israel), University of Sheffield (UK)). He is serving as a program committee member in numerous NLP/AI international conferences (e.g., ACL, EACL, COLING, NAACL, ECAI, CICLing).
